The latest addition to Castle’s Compact Collection is the “Column” an elegant floor standing speaker designed to augment the already successful range. By far the largest of the “Compacts” the new Column, when used as front speakers, has greater performance in terms of both dynamics and control than the somewhat smaller Satellite and Centre LCR’s can offer.
The Compact Column can deliver superb musical performance from either two or multi channel sources as well delivering movie soundtracks with the subtlety, drama and visceral impact the movie director, sound designers and engineers heard in the studio.

As always with Castle a key ingredient in this design is the quality cabinet built by Castle and available in a selection of the finest veneers available today. The cabinet is built using the best MDF board available, fully veneered on both surfaces, internally the cabinet has three braces and is further damped by extensive use of bitumous pads to dramatically increase the signal to noise ratio.
The new Column uses exactly the drivers found in the other Compact systems, the 19mm (3/4 inch) dome tweeter and two 110mm (4 ½ inch) bass mid units. The tweeter features a Neodymium magnet and ventilated fabric dome with a precision surround that allows an extended frequency response up to 40 kHz. The twin 110mm bass mid unit are Klippel optimised with four layer voice coils, for improved power handling, low colouration woven glass fibre cones and a pole piece with a copper cap for reduced distortion. The drivers are knitted together using a 4th order acoustic Linkwitz – Riley topology crossover using specially selected Polypropylene capacitors.
Whether as a front speaker in a 5.1 or 7.1 set up or the more traditional two – channel application the new Compact Column from Castle will never fail to deliver. Already the press have been more than supportive of this new design with Hi Fi Choice already awarding the Column the accolade of “Best Buy” status.
